The article analyzes the report published in June 2024 by the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry of the Canadian Parliament "Critical Ground: Why Soil is Essential to Canada's Economic, Environmental, Human, and Social Health. The report is based on the results of a large-scale Committee's study of the soil health of Canada, conducted between May 2022 and February 2024. More than 150 experts representing soil scientists, agronomists, farmers, ranchers, foresters, farm and environmental organizations, agribusiness, industrial groups, federal, provincial and territorial authorities spoke at the hearings on this issue in Parliament. Their opinions were taken into account in the preparation of the final report, which includes recommendations to the Government on the protection of the country's soils.
