В связи с усилением антропогенных влияний на агроландшафты необходима оптимизация их структуры и функционирования. Современные ландшафты лесной зоны представляют собой мозаичную систему, состоящую из разнообразных агроландшафтов и соседствующих с ними природных ландшафтов, занятых различными лесами и болотами, а также селитебных ландшафтов. Экотоны, переходные биогеоценозы, граничащие с другими биогеоценозами в агроландшафте, это защитные лесные полосы, посевы высокостебельных кулисных растений, небольшие болотца, сообщества балок и пр. Экотоны увеличивают устойчивость агроландшафтов, выполняют барьерные функции.
